The Center for Business & Professional Development at HCC announces professional development
training opportunities for municipalities and the not-for-profit sectors. Skills building courses and programs designed by a Certified Workforce Development Professional and former public official who understands the unique needs and issues faced by organizations and employees in public and not-for-profit workplaces. Institute Overview The HCC Public and Not-for-Profit Professional Development Institute was developed to address the unique needs of organizations and employees in these two vital sectors of the economy. The Institute's offerings can provide both one-day and ongoing training in a variety of sector-specific topics. The Institute's executive director and trainers have the combined experience of working with public or not-for-profit organizations, and experience providing training and services appropriate for adult learners. For the past five years, the Institute has been providing a one-day professional development day for all employees of the City of Holyoke. Each "themed" event has provided interactive, lively presentations and activities centered around teambuilding, customer service, civic engagement, building centralized systems, and innovation. Using this model, the Institute is prepared to offer individual municipalities, or groups of municipalities, on-site professional development days customized to meet your individual needs. Also available are management, leadership, communication skills, and other skills training necessary for working in the two sectors. Intended Audience Training through the Institute can be designed for elected officials, board members, appointed officials, and front line staff from any and all departments. There are no "off the shelf" or packaged programs through the Institute. We work with our customers to identify their training needs, understand the audience for which the training is being designed, and design and offer training that is relevant. |

Current Seminars TBA, check back soon Employee Development is not an Annual Event Adult professional development, now more commonly known as lifelong learning, is not a destination, but rather a never-ending journey. We can help your municipality or agency develop an employee development plan that ensures ongoing development for your employees. Of course, given the financial and fiscal year deadlines placed on public and not-for-profit agencies, it is essential for organizations to plan for training funds in their budgets far in advance of the training actually taking place. If you currently do not have an employee training line item in your budget, we encourage you to do so as you prepare for your next fiscal year. If you do have it in your budget, we invite you to contact the Institute at your earliest convenience to discuss possible training activities. At the request of owners and operators of area food and beverage organizations, The Center at HCC is pleased to
offer two trainings that will assist employees in meeting requirements of state/local laws, and ensuring public safety. Employees of restaurants, institutional food providers, nursing homes, schools, and other employees who handle food can now take advantage of ServSafe training and Certification through The Center. |
Any employees responsible for serving alcoholic beverages can become TIPS certified through The Center.
IPS Certification will better ensure proper and legal serving of alcohol, while in many cases also ensure
that alcoholic beverage establishments meet local laws and/or obtain a discount on their insurance.
