BASIC ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE WITH WORKPLACE THEMES
(BESL)
What is Accent Modification?

The Center at HCC has procured the services of a Compton P-ESL Certified Trainer to assist companies in modifying or reducing foreign accents to improve English verbal communication skills. All too often, companies hire non-native workers into engineering, quality control, healthcare, and other specialty occupations, only to find that their foreign accents negatively impact their effectiveness. Using the proven Compton P-ESL Accent Modification Method, our trainer can drastically reduce foreign accents of your employees in just 30 short hours. This training is ideal for foreign-born workers who have a good command of the English language but who need assistance in reducing their accents. At the end of the program, participants realize a dramatic improvement in English speaking communication effectiveness.

This program is ideal for white collar specialists for whom accent reduction would increase their value to their companies, but is equally effective for service personnel whose companies would like to promote if their communication skills could be improved through accent modification.

This training is also available through private contracts between companies and The Center at HCC. Typical training schedules are two hours per week for 15 weeks, for 1-5 participants in order to give participants a successful learning experience. Classes can be held days or evenings, either at the HCC campus or at a company location.

What is Command Spanish?

Command Spanish is the quickest, easiest way for non-Spanish speakers to learn enough Spanish to get their jobs done. Command Spanish is intended for managers, supervisors, coworkers, and personnel who interact with Spanish-speakers in the workplace. Learner-friendly language materials and workshops require no prior knowledge of Spanish, and eliminate tedious grammar instruction found in most other language programs.

Individual Command Spanish courses are designed for 27 different professions and customized to fi t your business so you learn just what is relevant in your workplace. Professions and businesses include: doctors, dentists, nurses, and other healthcare workers; police offi cers, probation and correctional offi cers; counselors, social workers, teachers; and supervisors and managers in construction, retail, banks, customer service, restaurants and hotels, industry, manufacturing, and warehousing.

Command Spanish is not conversational Spanish. It focuses on essentials—giving instructions and asking questions that can be answered by yes, no, or a physical action.

If your organization has six or more individuals who could benefit from this efficient way to learn Spanish,
