What is Jump Start?
FREE education and training for Transitional Aid for Families with Dependent Children
(TAFDC) recipients.
Enroll now for Fall classes. Space is limited.
The Jump Start Certificate Program provides free short-term education, training and employment
and services to qualified recipients. This non-credit, full-time program provides:
- Job skills training and assistance in getting a job
- Occupational skills training in Office Skills & Customer Service
- Medical skills training:
- Certified Nurse Aide/Home Health Aide
- Pharmacy Technician
- Medical Billing & Coding
- GED preparation
- Education in math, reading comprehension, and writing skills
- World of work and life skills training
- Internships with local companies if needed
- Job preparation workshops
- Job placement services for up to four months after course completion

To qualify for the Jump Start Certificate Program, you must:
- To qualify for the Jump Start Certificate Program, you must:
- Be receiving TAFDC
- Score appropriately on math, reading, and writing assessments
- Be committed to successfully completing the program and to getting a job
- Enter full-time employment after graduation
You DO NOT need a high school diploma
or GED to participate. However, the staff encourages you to complete
your GED during the program to increase your choices in the Job Market.

Our Office Skills/Customer Service Students Learn...
- Keyboarding
- Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint
- Business Communications
- Customer Service
- GED Preparation (if needed)
This program runs Monday through Friday from 9:00am - 3:45pm
for up to 16 weeks.

Our Certified Nurse Aide/Home Health Aide Students...
- Learn to provide direct care and services in long-term care settings under
supervision of a licensed professional nurse or in private homes through
classroom and clinical training
- Learn to assist residents in meeting their physical, social, and psychological
needs to attain a maximum level of independent function
- Gain Employability and Life Skills
- Become prepared to take the State CNA Certification Exam
- Become prepared to take the Home Health Aide Competency Exam
CNA/HHA students receive a set
of "whites" and a watch during training for clinical days, and
will receive two uniforms, a pair of shoes, and a stethoscope once they
begin working.
You must pass a CORI/SORI (Criminal
Offender Record Information / Sex Offender Registry Information) and provide
documentation from a medical professional that you can perform work-related
physical requirements and provide results of TB test.
This program runs Monday through Friday
from 9:00am - 2:30pm for up to 6 weeks. Clinical times (4 days) will differ
and will be announced in class. These times are typically from 8:00am
through 3:30pm. This course is approved by the Massachusetts Department
of Public Health/Division of Healthcare Quality, and exceeds federal regulations
for both classroom and clinical training hours.
